About Laura

Laura is a passionate and dedicated psychotherapist who deeply values the healing connections she forms with her clients. With an integrative approach, she combines psychodynamic therapy, experiential techniques, somatic practices, parts work, hypnotherapy, and equine-assisted psychotherapy to support individuals in navigating their mental and emotional challenges.

Laura’s work is grounded in her own ongoing journey of healing and growth, which fuels her commitment to helping others find transformation and self-connection.

Part of Laura’s personal healing journey included the transformative use of plant medicines—particularly psilocybin and ayahuasca—which played a key role in her process of self-exploration and recovery. These experiences deepened her understanding of the mind-body connection and inspired her to integrate holistic and trauma-informed approaches into her therapeutic work.

In addition to her personal experience, Laura has received professional training in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and psychedelic integration, expanding her ability to support clients engaging in these modalities safely and effectively. She is neurodivergent affirming, a 2SLGBTQIA+ ally, and dedicated to creating an inclusive, compassionate space for all clients.

Laura’s lifelong connection with horses has also profoundly shaped both her personal and professional path. Her first encounter with horses began when her father, a police officer, introduced her to the Toronto Police Stables—an early memory that left a lasting impression.

Later, when her family moved to Elmwood, Ontario, she spent time on a one-hundred-acre farm with three Appaloosa horses. During a period of mental health challenges, however, Laura found herself disconnected from the animals she once loved.

After returning to Toronto post-high school, Laura spent over two decades seeking support for her mental health, navigating experiences of suicidal thoughts and the limitations of traditional medical treatment. Refusing to accept that lifelong medication was her only path, she sought deeper healing.

In 2014, Laura met Dr. Gabor Maté, a world-renowned trauma and addiction expert, who mentored her in reconnecting with her true purpose. Through this mentorship, she embarked on a profound seven-year journey of self-exploration and transformation.

In 2016, Laura pursued her passion for helping others by studying Existential-Integrative Psychotherapy in Toronto. She went on to complete her Master’s in Counselling Psychology in 2023. That same year, she rekindled her bond with horses through work with a Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning (FEEL) Practitioner, rediscovering the joy and sense of connection she had felt as a child.

Inspired by the healing wisdom of horses, Laura trained as a FEEL® Facilitator and now integrates this powerful modality into her therapeutic practice.

Laura is also trained in the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)—a polyvagal-based therapeutic listening program designed to support nervous system regulation, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote emotional resilience. She now offers the SSP as part of her integrative approach to help clients reconnect with safety, calm, and inner balance.

Today, Laura brings together her lived experience, professional training, and deep respect for both human and animal wisdom to guide adults in their journeys of healing and self-discovery.

As a Registered Psychotherapist, Hypnotherapist, and FEEL® Alumni, she offers a compassionate and trauma-focused space where individuals can heal, grow, and reconnect with their authentic selves.

Louie Francis Lockhart is Laura’s beloved shih-tzu companion and honorary therapy dog. He often joins her at the farm with the horses. Louie has also been known to make an appearance in Laura’s virtual sessions and always brings a smile and some awe.
